Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park

As always, Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park is a unique, inspiring place to visit on the Big Island. But this year in brings some special and fascinating things.

One thing that makes this year one of a kind, is that it marks the 100 year anniversary of the park. Founded on August 1, 1916, Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park celebrates 100 years this year! Through December 31, 2016, the park will be celebrating its 100 year anniversary! Check out some of the upcoming celebration events, for the month of October 2016, here.

Another exciting activity to consider right now is visiting the current active lave flow. While Kilauea is always active, it is not every month or even every year that a surface flow can be watched. There has been quite a bit of activity lately, and you can schedule a trip to view the lava flow currently! Be safe! More information on the current lava flow can be found here: https://www.nps.gov/havo/planyourvisit/lava2.htm
