The Merrie Monarch Festival, started in 1963 by the Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce, is continued today by the Merrie Monarch Festival community organization. The purpose of the festival is to perpetuate, preserve and promote the art of hula and the Hawaiian culture through education. This festival is considered the world’s premier outlet for people of all ages to show their skills and knowledge of the art of ancient and modern hula.
Join in on the great times by watching or participating in the internationally acclaimed hula competition, crafts fair, art shows, hula shows, and the grand parade through Hilo town.
The week long Merrie Monarch Festival runs during the month of April.
