Waimea Annual Paniolo Parade

Athe the Waimea annual Paniolo Parade, we show off our paniolo, the art of pa’u, hula, oli, and olelo. Our royal society, Ahahui Ka’ahumanu Waimea Chapter are dressed in full regalia. Many of our paniolo and pa’u riders all own ranches, work & live the paniolo life as their kupuna. They teach our younger generation, thus perpetuate our culture. Some of our pa’u riders are 5th generation who live the paniolo lifestyle. It provides venues for practitioners to share their skills and knowledge of the culture. It also provides venues for artisans to display and sell their work (jewelry, clothing). Our events also draw visitors during this “shoulder period” who learn, experience, gain respect of our culture and help our economy. Just as important, they come away with memorable experiences of Hawai’i.
